Along the Way

|
Stories of our lives, families, and past are important. They are a way of preserving and passing along history.

In 2001 my Dad, John Hicks, passed away at the age of 75. He was born and raised in Phillips, WI and at the age of 17 he lied about his age and enlisted in the Navy to serve aboard the destroyer escort JOHN HOOD in the North Pacific during World War II. Upon returning from the war he married my mother, Lucille, and started a family in Milwaukee.

My maternal grandfather, Charlie Schachtschneider, had a saying "...too soon old and too late smart." Very true. Neither my siblings nor I had taken the time to ask to be told a story. We've lost something that can't be replaced.

Please use this web site to share your stories so they're not forgotten.

If you'd rather email your stories, please do. Email them to .

Beginning in the spring of 2011 we'll also be having sessions in various locations at which you can supply photos, etc. to accompany your stories. The session schedule will be posted on the page of the Hiway 13 North web site.
